Dude, you can find a used Perception or Ascend for a couple hundred most places. A pfd, paddle, and the desire to explore creeks is about all you need. :) But be warned, it is way addictive!

As soon as my kids are old enough to paddle I will definitely be picking some up. Unfortunately my hobby time is low at this point in life

It is, helps stabilize the boat while pulling the pup back on board so you don't turn over.

I liked the idea of an ongoing adventure thread....sometimes adventures are what you can do -vs- what you wish you could do. Bump to pg 1, pics loading.

So my adventure today was, hang out with my son and cook something awesome in a cool way. ( he likes to do primitive or frontier stuff). First up. We need some meat! :). Some deer from 2015 will do. (Still 10-12 lbs frozen from that year. You guys might see more of him.;) )

    image.jpeg

Spices, dull food sucks! You can't see it but I had evoo and 4 oz of dry red wine for this too.

This is our "kitchen" today. A 4qt Dutch oven, 12" carbon steel skillet, white bucket is charcoal, red ice chest is the icebox, camo bag is non refrigerator stuff. T-Bucket will be my muse as I had to be behind the camera.

    image.jpeg

In the ice chest was a Tupperware that had tomatoes, green onion, large yellow onion, several cloves of garlic, a turnip I found in the house fridge, a carrot, and 2 bell peppers. All chopped up and browning with the meat. In the Dutch oven went a pre soaked 1.5 cups of mixed beans and blacked eyed peas. Half the spices in each pot.

    image.jpeg
After the meat was about half done and most of the liquid evaporated off it gets dumped into the beans. Add the wine and move the coal from under the pan to on top of the Dutch oven. Add a decent amount of water to the pot, 3/4's full or so, better to be a bit soupy than to get to low and burn.

After about an hour of cooking T was telling me how good it was smelling. I showed him how to pull off the top coals and brush/blow the top clean. We taste tested and said 15 more minutes.

    image.jpeg

The aroma from the meat and wine sauce was absolutely mouth watering, off we went to get bowls and spoons even though it was still skin searing hot.

    image.jpeg

Then the best part. The Eating!! Yeah, that 4qt pot in the last pic? It's gone. This is his 2nd (or 3rd) bowl. When I had a bowl and looked there was maybe a good ladle full left. Next time I'm using a bigger pot! :D

Thanks for coming along y'all. Let's do this again soon alright?

A friend lost everything but the head of a 5# bass to a gator when we were in high school. Craziest thing I ever witnessed.

    Awesome thread!

It was a lovely spring day in Tx, the vibrant explosion of green, a good soaking rain...I'm loving it!

    image.jpeg
Well then, with all this rain we will need some serious Tx oak...

    image.jpeg
Perhaps a sip or two of this as well. ;)
