Yeah, that last pic on the ridge with my dog was chukar hunting in south-central ID. Hunting wild chuks in that terrain is a masochistic but weirdly addictive thing. It's honestly my favorite bird to hunt.

This was posted over in the Snow Pics thread, but figured it'd be appreciated here as well.

These photos are from where I grew up in Northern BC. We had snow 9 months of the year.

My old hometown was quite literally in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by nothing but wilderness for hundreds of kilometers in all directions but one (towards the neighboring town, about 75km away).

The name of the town was literally "Land of snow" in the local Native language.

This was the view out our front window.

There's a house in there, somewhere...

    The backyard.

That archway on the gate is about 8' tall.

Myself and my brother, all young and spry.

Here's a pic of the pile of snow in the mall parking lot. The large building you can see here is actually the hockey rink.

I’m not much on the open water but this was pretty darn amazing. If you haven’t been to Kenai Fjords you’re missing out.

Didn’t see King Kong but it sure reminded me of Skull Island when the fog and rain moved in.

Lots more pics, but you get the idea. The pictures don’t even compare to this stuff in person though.

I'll try and separate these by state. These were taken while in the bus so they're not perfect. Even if they were in 4K, it still wouldn't give justice to a lot of what I saw, especially in New Mexico. So first up, new Mexico. There's more but I'll have to go through them. I'm gonna tell you though that when I first saw this, the scenery, I swore I was in a dream looking at a painting. It was absolutely beautiful! 20190407_154525.jpg 20190407_154534.jpg 20190407_154556.jpg 20190407_154603.jpg 20190407_140358.jpg 20190407_140341_003.jpg 20190407_154548.jpg

I knew there was a picture thread, I just had to search for it lol. I didn't want to keep cluttering up the comments thread.

I lived in southwestern ID (Boise, Lucky Peak and Parma) for four years in the mid 70s. I was in my mid 20s. Introduced to Chukar hunting around Weiser.
Since I was nearly the youngest and perhaps the fittest (and newbie) I was sent to the top of the ridges to "block", and up there the birds are on the run, ready to break and fly. They run uphill and fly down. Tough wing shooting and lots of action and misses. No fun retrieving something that tumbles 500 feet down the side of a steep hill/small mountain. Carried a lot of shells up there.
Also found lots of "magic mushrooms" growing in the cow pies. Mystical hunting.
