I really like that KRG stock.

I really think most of you should consider more powerful scopes.

I went with the 3-15 because realistically, I won't be shooting 1000yds often, if ever. I've always felt that there's a scale for where quality and price meet up and high magnification optics that are lower on the price scale don't tend to match with quality. So if the majority of my shots can be done with 15x, I'm not doing myself any favors by using a 24x scope with a lower quality image, since I can't afford a high quality 24x optic.

Honestly, I see my rifle as a practical 700yd gun. I doubt I'll ever shoot past that. If I were to ever get into real long range, I'll probably go with something like 6.5 or 300wm.

Bcamos, I assembled this rifle about four years ago and everything has stayed the same with the exception of optics. Originally started with a Leupold Mk 4, 6.5x20 and then switched over to the Mk 4, 4.5x14.

    IMG_20180515_150228026.jpg

    Build specs;

    Upper assembly,
    - Vltor MUR-1 upper receiver
    - Daniel Defense RIS II handguard
    - DPMS 18" MK 12 contract barrel
    - Chrome bolt and carrier
    - Titanium firing pin
    - PRI gasbuster charging handle
    - Troy BUIS set
    - Surefire MB 556K muzzle brake

    Lower assembly,
    - C3 lower receiver
    - Jared 2# adjustable trigger
    - KNS pin set
    - Spikes Tactical T 2 buffer
    - Battle Arms ambi selector
    - Magpul UBR stock
    - Magpul MIAD grip

    Optic/Platform,
-Leupold MK 4, 4.5x14x50. Reticle, Impact 32 MOA
    - ADM 20 MOA, QD base
    - Flatline Ops articulating level

I probably have forgotten some small parts but this is the basic build. I use the Hornady 75 gr. HPBTM bullet at 2660 fps and it gets to 1000 yards ok but really shines at 800 yards and less.

Beautiful rifle man! Do you typically shoot off of a bag rest or do you use a bipod as well? Any particular reason why you switched from the 6.5-20 down to the 4.5-14?

My Vortex should be showing up within the next few hours. While it's no Mark 4, I'm still pretty excited about it!

My post sounded a little curt upon reading. I see your reasoning. I am partial to high power scopes. I used a straight 25 for offhand silhouettes and you kind of get used to them.

Once I did an informal survey of hunters that I know. Typically they had a 3x9 or similar. It seems they either kept it on 9 or 3, nothing in between.

I shoot with a bipod most of the time and off packs occasionally (.75 MOA POI difference from the two rests). The rifle with a loaded 20 round magazine weighs in at 12.8 lbs. and the Harris swivel bipod with QD adds another 2.5 lbs. A good stable platform for stationary positions.

The scope switch was due to weight and size, the 6.5 x 20 is a large heavy optic, it really overpowered the rifle. In most of my shooting situations, mirage will limit the higher powered scopes top end. Forty years ago we had no problem reaching 1000 with a top magnification of 9 power and we thought that was big medicin. Now optics are improving significantly every year. I stay old school on what I was taught mostly, 308 and a fixed 10 power MK 4, it works for me.

I think you will be very pleased with your Vortex, I have an old Gen 1 Razor (huge and extremely heavy) on a 308. I would like to upgrade to Gen 2 but just to much money. Absolutely, totally pleased with Vortex Optics,I have switched from Swarovski to Vortex on all my binoculars, they are that good to me. Dat

Regrettably, I did the math the other night. Apart from little bits here and there (like extra mags, the bolt lift, etc.) it would cost me around $2,100 to recreate this rifle.

Haha that's a total number cost. Add in Kyle's Leupold and Atlas and he's got me beat. The only thing that evens up the total cost is the chassis system on mine.

I guess when you figure the Atlas, the Leupold, and the mount I’m likely a little more. It hurts to think of it.

Got the Vortex property torqued today and zeroed. The bottom right 4rd group was my final confirmation.

After several days of 100 plus degree's, we had an all night rain and this morning at 0600 it was 72 degrees out so I took the opportunity to do some tuning.

Beautiful shooting area. I don't think I'd ever leave if I ever got to shoot at a place like that!
