This was a trial run, I plan to make a huge batch down the road.

    you need:

    - bakers chocolate - your choice of sweetness
    - a bag of multi ingredient trail mix
    - expresso coffee ground to fine powder
    - salt
    - cayenne pepper to add some heat

melt you chocolate, and while its melting, throw the rest of the ingredients into a blender and pulse until coarse.

mix well with the melted chocolate, and pour into a square container (tupperware etc)

tap the air bubbles out and place in freezer, (EDIT: don;t do this - let it set at room temp!) when hard, invert the container, tap and release.

Wrap in waxed paper and foil and stow away in your kit

I should note the chocolate was not tempered after pouring......its a bit soft......

Oh I'm definitely going to have to try making a batch of this. What better (barring whisky) than caffienated chocolate to have with a mug of coffee?

I kinda already ate it . So much for stashing it in the load bearing rig .. ..lol...

Need to work on the chocolate tempering though. The outside was dripping chocolate wherever it was being held.

Crispy, then super sweet, then salty, then strong coffee then suddenly spicy hot.

    It was epic

For the WWII d ration which is the same concept the recipe calls for parafin or beeswax to stabilize the chocolate for use in the tropics so it doesn’t melt FYI

Sounds awesome! I’ll be in Canada in May I’ll swing by to try it lol

That stuff looked awesome! Amazon maybe?

my other mistake was letting it cool in the freezer too long.....I should have let it set at room temp.

I'm going to make some of this for sure. I was kind of shocked it was that easy. Please update if you figure out how to stabilized the chocolate a little better.

for ingredient ratios: use about 75 % chocolate, 25% other ingredients.

I personally like spicy sweet salty chocolate, but your palette may differ. Adjust accordingly

I only have 1 tin left in the cupboard now which is just started on, that's why I was looking around for some more.
You could have the tin for only the postage but 1 tin is probably not worth it as cheapest option from me to Vancouver is $15.85 Aus
If I had a few I would just send them to you

I'll make a collection of stuff it will take a while I'll be off to work in 3 days for another 3 month stint, I can still get on here but getting things is limited.
I thought the postage was good but not so much for 1 empty tin:p

Did the wax make any difference to the taste?

Glad the wax idea helped you out!!!

If you are tin obsessed and collect them like I do $15 isn’t too bad... lol
