Passing along a trick my friends just used to get their truck started. They had left it unattended for a week while exploring on the sleds , in very cold weather. The truck would not turn over, despite havin a newer battery. So Rick took handwarmers, put three underneath the battery, and taped the rest on all sides and the top. Waited 20 minutes, and the truck fired up instantly. Something to throw into the truck kit!
Got my rack up and on top of my 4runner. Just have to install the ladder and I'm gtg. Looking forward to the extra cargo space.
Saw a video, i think from jason koertge, where he had his mud flaps ripped off on a rock and recommended taking them off or risk having them ripped off. I took mine off the front and on the back had to just cut off the flap part as it seemed that i opened up a space i didnt want a bunch of debris in. Pics later.
I’ve never ran them. Like you said there life span is limited. However, I do have a spot in the front fenders that gather rocks.
I'm thinking some expanding foam insulation behind it and some mining belt at the opening is the route I'll take.
I'm sure there are some good forest roads and back roads somewhere in Cali. Or you go a little east and hit those 4 corner states. I'll be in AZ in a few weeks, but it's gonna be haul butt out there, be at Expo, and then head back. I'm hoping we can hit the canyon and sand dunes on the return trip.
there's plenty out here, I just have none stock Tacoma lol. Not looking todo any mods until I get some blacksmithing tools in order. I may try to make it to az for that, but still not sure yet.
I should, need to plan a car camping trip that doesn't suck. Gotta put in my request for vacation in May. Really wanting to check out the overland deal in AZ
I hope you can make it. As for stock vehicles... my buddy Steve that was at bushcraft drives an 01 Cherokee with a small suspension upgrade and some AT tires and goes about anywhere he wants. A set of traction platforms, a kinetic strap, and shovel are good to have on hand. Obviously the strap is only useful with another truck.
Added vent visors and quick fists for a shovel to the rig this weekend. After car camping in the rain i decided those vent covers are worth it.
