easy way to make your own nutritious, cost effective camp / hike food.

    DEHYDRATE!

maybe you have an abundance of veggies from the garden, or if your stuck in the city like me, the frozen food section Sales are a goldmine. (plus the frozen veggie are a uniform size and no need for blanching)

I use a Nesco dehydrator currently, but plan to build a large 20 tray unit soon.

this weeks dehydrate: Onions, hash browns, and mixed veggies. These will be mixed together, along with dehydrated cooked sausage and seasonings, instant rice or dehydrated macaroni, for a simple quick boil meal for camping, hiking etc

    mixed veggies (still dehydrating)

still need to dehydrate the hash browns and sausages....

Good stuff bushman load up when you can, how long does it take roughly to dehydrate the veggies you have in there.

not too bad timewise, about 14 hours. Would go faster if i had the mesh liner sheets to prevent the veggies in the upper trays from falling thru the grids onto the bottom tray ......

I have only try'd it a few times. My favorite was believe it or not a can of chilli spread out on different layers. Rehydrated super well and was great.

I need to get more into it . freeze dried meals are too pricey.

This would be fun to try... for hashbrowns though I buy this at Walmart for$1.25 and it fills my 10” cast iron skillet after hydrating....

They are cheap and good! The first time I tried them I was impressed when I dumped them out they smelled like fresh cut potatoes and the crisp up great! If you can get in Canada hit me up I’ll mail you some.

The closer you get to Bentonville, Arkansas the bigger they get. Some of the Wal-Marts around here have their own zip codes.
