@BlueDogScout that’s the down side of every wood burning camp cook Stove I’ve ever used. You just about have to steadily feed it.

Yea, never fun... I keep stoves in case I can’t have an open fire but I prefer a campfire for cooking. Managing a fire for coking I think is an extremely important skill...

Whoa Boker!! Holding out on us!! More info please!

In regards to hanging the pot, I use a lot of things. In the picture its a marshmellow cooker metal thing bent to hold the pot hanging off a stick with a pot hanger cut. In the woods yesterday i used a longer hanger with a pot hook cut.

Meat going into the hole. From a trip we did to southern UT last fall, camping on BLM land. Dug a hole, lined it with rock, built a fire, and let it burn until we had a good, deep bed of coals, put the meat on and buried it for 10 hours while we went biking. Came back and dug it up in the evening and it was slow-cooked to perfection.

I have heard great things! I ended up going with a toaks pot of similar size. I had a coupon and the bale is removable. Dunno if I’m fully satisfied but it also has a small skillet and is a better size than the pathfinder bushpot I had. My set up is more like the old US military mountain mess/cook kit. Those were great but very large. I still wonder if I need the mors pot to try... the small one most trips are me and my dog. Hard to find primitive campers.

Excellent, I think I have that same crock pot! Lol I love the original pit cooking. The best beans I ever had came from this cooking type. Gotta love a good bean hole!

Been looking at those for awhile now. Guess I need to pull the trigger. The stove I posted in the first photo on page 1, is a Two Dog stove from the Four Dog Stove Co.

Agreed, especially if you are using a tripod and can raise or lower to adjust
