For the longest it was just whatever cutting tools I had on hand. I never could find a way to comfortably carry a handgun with a pack with a waist belt. The Hill People Gear chest rig solved all that.

I wish I was legally able to carry a handgun with me in the woods. I've been stalked by mountain lions more times than I can count.

For me, it's my belt knife (whatever it happens to be at the time), my 7 foot 1kg walking stick and a magnum can of bear spray.

I have been fairly pleased with HPG. Testing out the Heavy Recon currently.

Much like my BC Brother @Reno Lewis.....Magnum Can of bear spray for 2 legged idjits, whatever chopper knife i have on the Scout Rig, plug a smaller large fixed blade, plus a Spyderco Civilian Folder (yes the real one). And usually a big pain stick (hiking staff) and a 1000 lumen plus flashlight set to strobe mode (animals DO NOT like it)

I should add.......bear bangers (Tru-Flare). they have a lot more uses than scaring bears.

The Heavy Duty Recon Kit looks pretty awesome. What are your thoughts so far?

Two important things (and yes I take this on a small tangent) .... my brain and a plan. Those are my most important two assets (looks charm and personality aside), weapons and tools combined. With that out of the way, I always have a fixed blade knife with me (ALWAYS) it may vary depending on where I am but always a fixed blade and more often than no a folder (generally a smallish Buck 0500). Now more than 80% of the time I will also have an optic sighted rifle (in the range between .22/250 and .375H&H).

Whatever knife I have on me and typically a G19. I used to carry in the HPG bag but have since gone to a dedicated holster..... I was cooking breakfast during a camping trip and a 200 lb Hog came charging within 20 ft of camp. Kit bag was in the tent, so now the gun is on my side all the time unless I’m wearing the kit bag.

I like it but have not tested with heavy, tertiary gear yet. Will keep you posted on thoughts.

I carry this exact same combo often! I even have the Hogue wrap around grips, just the left hand target version. I've started to swap out the MKII Govt for a G20 10mm or a 16" 5.56 AR since hogs and methheads have become more prevalent in my areas of operation.

I will either have my Esee 3 or PR4, SAK farmer, and either my 357 wheel gun or my PT 901 9mm. I am definitely interested in getting on of the chest rigs to make carrying in the field easier.

LOVE IT. All your survival kit is right there, not going anywhere. Fall into a river or lake and its still going to be on your person.

Very nice. How many days are you typically staying in the bush with these excursions?
