I went from almost regretting the purchase of this knife when I got it thinking it was kinda ridiculous to it being one of my absolute favorites the more I use it. It's beat up more pine stumps harvesting fatwood than all my other knives combined. It's just a straight up workhorse, and after narrowing the edge and squaring the spine it's just about perfect. I think filing in a choil is next!

My 5. Got it tonight as a late birthday gift from my family. I had a black one a few years ago but I traded it off and missed it ever since. This one I’m keeping!
Just got a five and I was shocked as to how heavy it is. Feels like a tank in the hands but the length and grip seems nice. What role do you use this sized blade? I see a lot of photos of splitting wood and other hard use tasks. Do you all combine it with a SAK or something?
I've thinned the edge bevel on mine and use it as a stand alone mostly for fire prep. I've used it in the kitchen some at work slicing pork loin at our Christmas party because the kitchen knife there was an abomination. The 5 did an excellent job. That said I usually have one or two other knives on me most days, so if the 5 is too much for an extremely delicate task I'm prepared. Congrats you're going to like it a lot the more you use it and see what it's capable of doing. My mindset was much like your's when I got mine two years ago.
I think the sabre grind part is where im really interested in seeing how it performs. Hope to get out this weekend and do some testing and photos.
@Strigidae I also wanted to add the 5 is a very capable deer and hog processing knife. I'm very into dissecting out the leg and hip joints because I don't care for getting bone fragments, bone saw dust in/on the meat and prefer having the cartilage ends on the bones in the ice chest to avoid getting cut on. The 5 as with the Laserstrike dissects through the joints like a champ without any thing to worry about.
Is this your first saber grind model? I thought you've posted a Laserstrike before. Those two models pretty much cemented my love for the saber grind even though they're still fairly different with the LS being high saber and the 5 being more traditional. When it came to wood processing my 5 stole the show from my 6, mainly because I never saw any bending when putting it through hard use. That desert tan looks nice! Can't wait to see the pics and hear your initial opinions!
I do have a laser strike and like it except the handle. I feel best choked up on the LS. Other grips just feel odd. The 5 is just so massive and the angles are very big.
I definitely understand that, if I didn't have mutant large hands I probably wouldn't care for the LS handle either. If you have a 6 with tkc g10 scales try them on the 5, they really transform the overall feel of it.

That's pretty much the response I expected! It's truly a blade you have to use to understand its purpose imho.
