ok soooo after like 6 hours.....pulled out of the Lodge Dutch Oven SLATHERED in smokey BBQ sauce and hot garlic chili sauce (oh shut up ya purists...it tastes GOOD)
Not a cool action shot, but I stopped by the only thrift store that was open today. They were running a sale on kitchen items, so I picked up this 5" for a little less than $5.
I tried searching, but didn’t see how much lye/water for soaking pans. Any recommendation? I have 1lb lye and tel pans in a 16 qt container.
Many, many, many, many times. The solution I have in my garage right now has sat in a rubbermaid tub for over 3 years. It's done probably 100 lbs of cast iron. It's got sludge on the bottom from old stuff and it's black as pitch but it still works. It's actually probably frozen right now, so I doubt it works this very second. But in the spring, it'll be good again. Just remember it's poison so don't let kids take a bath in it or stuff like that.
I just read an article about Evapo-Rust and it says it's good for cast iron cookware. Soak over night and rust is gone, also reusable until it turns black. Anyone tried it ?
Cooked a couple steaks in the oven. Didnt think to get a photo of them. But decided to boil off the baked on bits in the skillet.
