I love 686s. I had one as a cop in 1987 and was issued one by Uncle suger in 1991. I kept it until retirement in 2016. I had one of the full lug model 14s as a distinguished gun. I shot it better than my PPC gun.

Top one is a CS-1, 3 inch issued to the suits as US Custom Service carry. Too bad Janet Reno had many of them destroyed after they were replaced with semiauto's. Both these are no Dash, no locks. Can't beat a heavy L Frame for recoil mitigation.
They are real pussycats with .38spl. and badass in .357.

K frames are my favorite with L frames a close second.

I think anyone with firearms, be they handguns or rifles, should buy the same model and brand and have at least 3 to 4 of each.

Parts are interchangeable, if one goes down you have have another. And you always have the same rifle or handgun so muscle memory is always there in times of duress.

It makes total sense to me, not just as a former MIL , LE , TL, or firearm instructor guy, but it just seems like common sense.

I most certainly have more than one AR15, and keep AR10s so the manual of arms is the same. When it comes to pistols, I own a variety, but always use the Glocks as backup weapons (and duty), as well as my choice for out in the woods, off duty and other occasions.

Recently I picked up a S&E Model 10, and two of its Stainless Steel twins (the model 64).

I have two HK P7's, and four Ruger MKII's and one MK II era 22/45, all in different configurations. They seem to be multiplying. :)

i agree about having two of the same firearms - most in my collection have duplicates. i've had my glock 17 for a month now and shot about 1k rounds and it's hands down my favorite so i probably won't stop with a backup...i'll probably end up with at least 3...or 5 :)

    • If were only ruled by logic we’d all own two 9mm Glocks and two ARs, besides guns for hunting.
    • I talked a firearms instructor once who is retired swat and mil and did some odd bodyguard stuff like transporting artwork and jewelry. He said he has two guns, a Glock 22 and AR.
    • I have no idea why I am talking in bullet points

Hell, I think I'd like to have half a dozen of these, for no practical reason whatsoever:

Competition guns make up a large part of many gun officionado’s collection.

I have known full time Firearms Instructors that did not even own their own gun.

While I don’t own identical sets of guns I do have guns that can easily fill in if one goes down for repair. Indeed at this time my 1911 in .45 has gone back to the mother ship because I managed to break the ejector and one of the posts is stuck in the frame. So if I feel 1911ish I’ll carry my 10mm or my BHP.
I have rifles that are the same caliber and same controls but aesthetically different.
The old rule that “Two is one and one is none” doesn’t stipulate they have to be twins.
